Which Affects Your Weight More - CBD or THC?

The cannabis plant contains many cannabinoids, including cannabidiol (CBD). THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is another cannabinoid that gives cannabis its intoxicating properties. CBD has not been shown to produce intoxication.

CBD does not stimulate hunger, and studies have linked cannabis consumption to reduced calorie intake rather than weight gain. The claim that they produce either weight gain or decrease is highly debatable. The "munchies" that some individuals report feeling after smoking marijuana have led to the widespread belief that cannabis usage leads to weight gain. Of course, that doesn't tell the whole story.

Cachexia (wasting syndrome) may benefit from THC's prospective usage since it increases hunger without necessarily increasing it.

Weight Loss and CBD

Because of its effects on the body and the brain, CBD may also help with weight loss.

The endocannabinoid system is primarily responsible for CBD's physiological effects. Two cannabinoid (CB) receptors, CB1 and CB2, mediate the system's responses to various substances in the body.

The central nervous system and brain have the highest concentration of CB1 receptors. The immune system is where you'll find most CB2 receptors. CBD may be useful for someone attempting to reduce weight, as unbelievable as that may sound. The indirect benefits of cannabis products in lowering the risk of obesity directly affect the metabolic rate.

However, CB1 receptors become more common in patients with obesity, especially in adipose tissue. This has led scientists to speculate that CB1 receptor activation may play a role in the development of obesity.

CBD interacts with other cannabinoids, including the endocannabinoid system and serotonin receptors, potentially activating several. Weight reduction and other critical metabolic processes may benefit from this.

Cannabis and Weight Gain

Even though cannabis usage has been shown to enhance hunger, research has shown that it can reduce the prevalence of obesity and avoid rises in body mass index (BMI). This suggests that while marijuana use may temporarily increase food consumption, it may ultimately aid in weight reduction. Because CBD has several positive benefits, it's not always appropriate to focus on just one.

CBD and THC Products and How They Influence Snacking

While it's true that smoking marijuana might make you hungrier, this effect doesn't appear to have anything to do with the cannabinoids CBD or THC.

CBD has been demonstrated to reduce appetite, whereas THC does not affect hunger. Thus, CBD oil with added THC would not have the same impact as smoking the entire cannabis plant, and CBD is more likely to reduce hunger than to stimulate it.

Because of its long-standing connection with munching, some may be surprised by the findings linking cannabis to weight reduction.

Indeed, a recent study found that in the United States, states where cannabis is now legal, sales of "junk" food, broadly defined as chips, cookies, and ice cream, increased. However, remember that correlation is not proof of causality. Sales of these items may have increased in states where cannabis is legal, but that doesn't prove that cannabis is to blame.

How is it possible for pot smokers to eat more and less? Researchers are yet to determine the exact cause, but they suspect a delicate equilibrium exists between the two primary cannabinoids in marijuana. Evidence suggests that the psychoactive component responsible for marijuana's "high," THC, also stimulates appetite. It's why some people find that using cannabis helps them eat more.

Conversely, CBD appears to mitigate the hunger-stimulating and mood-changing effects of THC.

How Marijuana Intake Reduces Weight Gain

It has been suggested that cannabidiol (CBD) might aid in weight loss, among other health benefits. The following are some of the possible outcomes of this.

Boosting Energy Expenditure

Marijuana consumption appears to provide a temporary boost in metabolic rate. Increasing metabolic rate is a great way to lose weight quickly. Because CBD reduces hunger, CBD oils aid weight reduction by making it easier to ingest fewer calories than are burnt. In addition to increasing energy expenditure directly, CBD can boost metabolism via browning fat white cells. Someone aiming to reduce their body fat percentage may find this very useful.

Risk of Obesity Reduction

CBD may help with weight reduction by making it more challenging to put on weight in the first place. For instance, CBD has been demonstrated to provide calming and sleep-inducing effects.

These are substantial contributors to obesity but are also crucial to overall health. Carbohydrate metabolism is also sped up by CBD, which aids in blood sugar regulation and prevents insulin resistance. That helps in slimming down and lessens the likelihood of diabetes.

Possibilities and Cautions

While preliminary research findings on cannabidiol (CBD) and weight loss suggest promising links, several factors must be considered.

There is currently no therapy for obesity, including CBD or any other substance, supplement, or medicine. No dietary supplement or isolated chemical can substitute a balanced diet and frequent physical activity.

CBD should be used with a healthy diet and regular exercise to lose weight.

See your doctor first if you want CBD to slim down. CBD may interact negatively with other drugs; therefore, patients and doctors should review all of the patient's current prescriptions.

Companies may intentionally mislabel or otherwise mislead their CBD products because of the FDA's lack of strict oversight. That's why it's crucial to do your homework and select a high-quality item.

Bottom Line

CBD oil is not expected to lead to weight gain because it reduces hunger, and cannabis usage is linked to long-term weight loss. Appetite stimulation and hunger sensations have been linked to CB1 agonists like THC. CBD is an antagonist at CB1 receptors, albeit its affinity for these receptors is minimal. When combined with cannabigerol (CBG) and small amounts of tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV), CBD may be even more effective at suppressing hunger.

Although cannabis has a negative connotation for weight gain due to the "munchies," it has the opposite impact. Because of its effect on metabolism and its capacity to lessen the chance of acquiring obesity and associated health issues like diabetes, CBD oil consumption may aid a person in losing weight.
